What do you get, when you assemble some of Toronto’s most hyped restaurant chefs & baristas? You get Assembly Chef’s Hall, where 17 chefs from some of Toronto’s hottest restaurants serve up their signature dishes! The 18th spot acts as a rotational pop-up for local & visiting chefs to test new concepts. Some highlights from the launch party include: 1. Mini Bara-Chirashi from Shari, by Chef Jackie Lin. We were pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the sashimi but a bit alarmed by the high prices for each bowl of chirashi – hopefully they’ll be able to maintain the quality once Assembly Chef’s Hall isRead More →

Menya Fuji Ramen

At Yonge and Finch in Toronto, change is constant amidst the restaurants and businesses that line the area. The latest addition to the neighbourhood is Menya Fuji, an unassuming, simple Japanese restaurant focused on ramen. Menya Fuji offers a number of appetizers to get started. The takoyaki dish come in an order of 5. Each one is packed with 2 pieces of octopus (!!) within a crispy exterior, however the inside is quite doughy. The chicken karaage was very juicy with a thick crispy skin. Each piece was quite large and tender. We tried the Tonkotsu Shio ramen which is a pork bone broth with aRead More →

The Toronto location follows the Vancouver location opening just by one week. Game of Cheese Banner

From the head chef of Kaka All You Can Eat, a new cheese-inspired Japanese fusion restaurant has opened in the heart of Richmond Hill. We joined Chef Frank and team for an afternoon of demonstrations and good eats at the Game of Cheese. Game of Cheese was originally a restaurant featuring cheese fondue, however after considering some customer feedback they evolved their menu to include other Japanese-Italian fusion dishes that are comforting and affordable. Their menu offers 9 different types of pizza and 10 types of pasta with Asian-inspired flavours such as Chicken Kaarage Pizza, Seafood Omurice Pizza, and Seafood Linguine. There’s no doubt for many of us, Walmart is known as a one-stop shop for almost anything you need. But did you know you can also get quality groceries from Walmart? We had the opportunity to join Chef Graham Elliot and Walmart Canada for an evening of steak and tacos. We learned some great tips about making our own summer steak tacos and tasted for ourselves the quality of ingredients that Walmart offers. In the spirit of summer, when we arrived at the event we were immediately greeted with margaritas. After mingling and taking photos with Graham Elliot, he proceeded with his cooking demonstration andRead More →

Do you have a sweet tooth like us?  Then you have fair warning.  Eva’s Original Chimneys now has a brick-and-mortar location! As some food truck aficionados know, Eva’s Original Chimneys started off as a food truck at various events around Toronto, including the Evergreen Brickworks, where the lineups were insane as Torontonians couldn’t get enough of their “doughnut cones”. After this widespread success, fast-forward in time and the move from just a cramped food truck to an actual physical location was a natural progression.   We met the owners of Eva’s Original Chimneys, Kristin and Justin, at their recent soft opening of their new locationRead More →

Tosto Dishes

TOSTO Quickfire Pizza Pasta recently opened shop in the heart of Toronto’s Fashion district and we were fortunate enough to be invited to a media event for the launch of their flagship location. We got to mingle with other food bloggers and learn about the franchise’s history from the owners, all the while sampling their many dishes from their plentiful menu. The recently opened location is located at Richmond St. W. & Spadina Ave and can be easily spotted from a distance with its large, bright sign and the interesting doors made from shipping containers. The open-concept interior is spacious, with adequate lighting and aRead More →

Shoko Chocolate Heart

In preparation for Valentine’s day, we were invited by Good Food Toronto to participate in a chocolate decorating event to make our own Valentine’s (or un-Valentine’s) chocolate hearts. The event was hosted by Goûter Patisserie, Boulangerie & Chocolaterie and Shoko Chocolates. We were greeted by Rodney Alleguede, owner of Gouter and Royce Li, owner of Shoko Chocolates.  All the pastries, breads, ice cream and chocolates are made in house at Gouter and are beautifully displayed in their small storefront. Shoko has partnered with Gouter and sells many of their chocolate products in the Gouter location. Rodney and Royce led us downstairs through two floors of kitchens –Read More →
