Love Gelato is a cute little shop on Main St Markham serving quality gelato, sandwiches and desserts. We had the opportunity to meet the two owners, Daniel and Vlad, who were extremely welcoming and down to earth. They have two key values they uphold for Love Gelato, customer service and quality of product. The owners frequently travel to try alot of gelato as part of their goal to make their gelato the “best gelato you’ve ever tasted”.
Love Gelato’s gelato is vegan, peanut free and gluten free, and everything in the shop is homemade except for the macarons which are sourced from a local bakery. All their gelato ingredients are imported from Italy, and they have a dedicated peanut-free lab in Toronto where they pasteurize and make their gelato.
I sampled their wine gelato and candy walnut gelato. You can definitely taste the red wine flavour and it was very refreshing. The candy walnut had pieces of candied walnut in it (candied for 35 days) which was soft and slightly chewy. The gelato reminded me a bit of chestnut cake which is one of my favourites. 4/5
One of the more unique drinks Love Gelato has is their Nutella Latte. The latte is creamy and not too sweet, with a subtle Nutella flavour. I would have preferred a stronger Nutella flavour though. 3.5/5
Love Gelato is also a good choice for lunch or a snack if you’re in the area. They feature a few sandwiches such as ham and cheese croissants and turkey bocconcini artisan sandwiches. The sandwiches taste great grilled but are nothing too special, I would stick to their sweet options instead.. 3/5
The Nutella and banana piadina is a classic combo on top of a thin Italian flatbread. The flatbread gives it a thicker, crunchier texture than a crepe, and eats almost like a pizza. This was so delicious, you really can’t go wrong with Nutella and banana! 4/5
The caramel pecan cheesecake is homemade and I have no complaints! The pecans were crunchy and the sweetness of the caramel went really well with the cheesecake. 4/5
Lastly, we had the vanilla pastry with nocciola gelato. This was SO good! The hazelnut gelato flavour was so strong and the pastry was light and flaky. This was topped with chocolate, sugar crystals and hazelnuts and the whole combination worked together so well. 4.5/5
Love Gelato has a large variety of flavours and are always pushing the boundaries to bring new and creative flavours to their customers. The quality of the gelato is one of the best I’ve had in Toronto; I would gladly drive to Main St just to have some! Luckily, Love Gelato is planning to expanding to the Yorkville and Yonge and Eglinton areas in the next two years, I’m looking forward to being able to have their gelato around the city!
